  1. Dave says:

This process is ridiculous and doesn’t work. So “save as csv” closes the work book. Opening it again IF you want to, is a lot less trouble than messing about with this thing. Get rid of it.

    • Maria Balobanova says:

      Hi Dave,

Sorry to hear that this add-in wasn’t of use to you. But when one has to export numerous tables to CVS from one Excel spreadsheet, then the feature comes in really handy. Opening Excel again and again would be truly frustrating. Another point – “save as csv” exports the whole sheet, not a selected range if you need that.

  2. Alex says:

I’m using this tool and the file I download starts with a ZERO WIDTH NO-BREAK SPACE (&#65279) and is messing with some of the tools i’m trying to use with the .csv. Any ideas why this is happening?

  3. Mario says:

This is okay, but not quite as useful as importing from CSV file. Excel has a nasty habit of re-formatting everything to scientific notation, removing leading blanks, etc…
You have anything to import CSV?

    • Maria Balobanova says:

Thank you, Mario! The idea for CSV import is great, we will consider it in the next XLTools updates.

  4. B El says:

While attempting to install the addin, it said that it sends information over the internet. Could you please point out what data is being sent over the internet while using this addin? Is there a document detailing that?

  5. Dave Greene says:

What’s the advantage of using the Add-In versus saving the spreadsheet as a CSV file type?

    • Maria Balobanova says:

      Hello Dave, excellent question!
      1) MS Excel does enable you to save Excel tables as plain text CSV files, however, there is a drawback. Every time you save Excel file in CSV format, the original Excel file is automatically closed. So you have to reopen Excel after each export operation, which is rather time consuming if you need to convert multiple files. The Export to CSV feature by XLTools simplifies this routine operation. It enables converting an Excel file to CSV format without closing the original Excel file or changing its extension. As a result, your original Excel file stays in its primary format (nothing is changed!) while all selected table data are exported to CSV file.
      2) With XLTools you can choose a different separator in the resulting CSV file (comma, semicolon, tab, vertical bar).
      3) With XLTools you can select a specific range to export to CSV, instead of the whole spreadsheet.
      4) It is so much faster and easier!
We have this Export to CSV feature as an Office App, as well as a part of desktop version of XLTools.
